Bolsover Castle

When we left the Peak District, it was the following morning (after Curbar Edge and the Chatsworth House).  We decided to have one last stop, at Bolsover Castle, in Bolsover, just a little east of the Peak District.  I had seen pictures online, that made this castle look quite impressive and convinced my friend we should check it out real quick, since it wasn’t too far off our route…

The castle was built during the 16th century, as a result, its not quite the same as a medieval castle.  Bolsover Castle is more like a large, fancy estate house, made to look like a castle.  Like the Chatsworth House, Rusty was allowed on the grounds, but not inside the buildings.  We took turns, one of us exploring the outside with Rusty, while the other went in the castle.  Its not very large, but it has several floors, and plenty of rooms.  The highlight to this place, the painted murals in so many of the rooms, still preserved so well, on the walls, ceilings, even inside the window arches.  I wish I could have seen this place back in its day, it must have been absolutely gorgeous!
